Dear TM East,
Thank you for all your recent prayers and attention.
Please pardon the flurry of emails and possibly my over reaction to political events in Guinea.
There was some good news last night. I hope things will be back to calm now.
What a drama Guinean politics can be.
Dadis finally made a public address Sunday night where he fully endorsed the Ouagadougou (pronounced “wha ga doo goo”) protocol. This was done to ease tensions among his hard line supporters in Guinea who were still camped out at the Conakry airport waiting for Dadis to return.
The Ouagadougou Protocol finally confirms that no military member or member of the transition government will run for president in the planned elections in six months and General Konate will be the interim leader until the elections.
Dadis is out of Guinean politics it seems.
Who knows if the protocol will be followed, but if it is, it is a major step towards civilian democratic rule.
In the immediate aftermath, it takes the wind out of the military who may oppose Konate and the current transition government. If Dadis hardliners accept it, it may be peaceful for a while.
I am relieved. I pray that Guinea can finally have some stability and democracy.
Only 4 more Sundays left in Sambouya, 31 days in Guinea.
My main ministry focus now is to develop the youth ministry, soccer outreach and Sunday school, so that it will continue on after my departure.
Thank you always for your prayers and support.
In the Lord, brother Chris
