Dear All,
Thank you always for your continuing prayers and support.
We are fine and things are very calm in Sambouya and Faranah, which is very far from Conakry, the captial. There is no cause for alarm. But we do need to pray for Guinea.
As some of you may have heard, on this past Monday, September 28, Guinea's independence day,
there were demonstrations held in Conakry to protest the current
military junta's leader's (Captain Dadis Camara) intention to run for
president.
The military and security forces brutally dispersed the crowd of
about 50,000 people shooting live ammunition killing at least 157 and
injuring over 1,200 people. The opposition groups intend to continue
the protest and want a return to democratic rule.
The coming weeks will be a critical time for Guinea. Last night
on public radio, Dadid Camara said that he had not officially made the
decision to run in next year's planned elections and that he was
saddened by the deaths on Monday. Dadis Camara is a professing
Christian.
Let us pray for God's help and mercy to Guinea and its leaders, and people,
for a peace and democracy and progress forward into the future.
Please, continue to pray for me and our ministry here and my language studies.
And also continue to pray for Pastor Joshu and his family as they settle down for their furlough in Chicago. I hear from Pastor Joshua and David Kim that it is very cold there, of course, compared to Guinea.
Thank you and God bless you all.
The Lord is in control; We shall fear not!
In the Lord, Chris in Guinea
